PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The main goal of this urban design and construction project was to provide a more accessible and faster pedestrian connection between Obala kralja Petra Krešimira IV and Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević Street. The new pedestrian access improves connectivity to the local high school, city sports hall, and other public facilities, enhancing overall urban mobility in Ploče.
To ensure comfortable and safe movement, the stairs were designed with a step height of 15 cm and a tread width of 30 cm, creating short stair runs with a minimum of three and a maximum of eight steps in a row. At the upper section, a small landing was integrated to match the natural terrain. All works were carried out with special care to preserve the existing greenery and mature trees on site.
In 2021, the project received two prestigious CEMEX Awards (national level, Croatia) for sustainable construction and outstanding social value. This recognition qualified the project for the international CEMEX Building Award, held in Mexico.
